I fired up my old Compy today and found many of my pictures which I thought were gone forever. Yay! It's painfully slow and it doesn't currently have a connection to the internet. I tried getting on someone's network via wireless but it's password protected. Looks like I'll have to figure out the router or connect another one. Whatever goes down, I am not running cable down the hallway.
I'm wondering if KVCC's wireless network reaches as far as here. It's almost three miles away. Probably not. It still surprises me that my cell phone wouldn't work. It's not as if I am in the middle of the woods or on a mountaintop.
I felt this sort of odd nostalgic fondness for the beat up faceless, stained and burned machine. Yes, Compy is it's name. We've been through a lot of times together Compy and I. It's been pulled apart and put back together and had pieces torn out and new ones put in and donor pieces added from dead computers. After all that abuse and finally abandonment in the back of the closet, it's still ready to go like a faithful old dog. It still holds in it's memory banks data and photos and even old schoolwork I thought were far behind. I almost think it missed me. I felt bad when, finally after commanding it to shut down for the fifth time, I held down the button until the sound stopped. Sleep well Compy. I'll be back tomorrow.
